The mission of the Career Center of Southern Illinois is to provide integrated and relevant career and technical education, as well as employability and academic skills for junior and senior students from area high schools, for adults from surrounding communities, and for “at risk” students. We believe that learning must take place in a nurturing, safe environment that recognizes the diversity of individuals while promoting equity for all.
Our high school CNA instructors, Cara Dayhoff and Kelly Jany (a State HOSA Board Member) took a group of CCSI Health Occupations students to the annual State Convention in Decatur, March 9-11, 2016. Our students were among 1050 students from 35 high schools across the state. Emily Ford represented CCSI as the Parliamentarian of the HOSA State Board. While at the HOSA Conference students competed in a variety of competitions. CCSI students represented us very well earning the following awards:

Grace Banda- 4th place, Healthy Lifestyles Mackenzie Smith- 3rd place, Job Seeking Skills CCSI is very proud of our students and instructors and their accomplishments. Some of the HOSA students have qualified for and will be traveling to HOSA Nationals in Nasvhille, TN, in June.

AWS MIDWEST WELDING TEAM COMPETITION

CCSI wins team trophy at
the AWS Midwest Welding Team Competition. On March 12&13th 5 CCSI welding
students competed at the J. Everett Light Career Center in Indianapolis,
Indiana at the 36th annual Midwest Welding Team Tournament. 21 teams from Illinois,
Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky brought teams consisting of 5 students to compete
in either, Theory, GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, and FCAW. The CCSI team consisted of
Seniors Steve Harris,and Jeff Wingerter from Chester, Tom Mehring from Red
Bud,Elliot Newcom from Waterloo, and Junior Dallas Renth from New Athens.The
theory test consisted of 250 questions covering all aspects of welding,
blueprint reading, and metalurgy. The Gas Tungsten Arc Welding project
consisted of an aluminum project and a vertical aluminum bend test. The Gas
Metal Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, and Flux Core Arc Welding
project consisted of a mild steel project and a vertical bend test. Team
trophy's, and individual trophy's are awarded in each of the 5 areas. Jeff
Wingerter placed 4th in SMAW, Tom Mehring placed 4th in FCAW, Dallas Renth
placed 4th in theory, and the 5 member team earned the 5th place team trophy.

High School CNA students sporting their new CCSI t-shirts
Eight students from CCSI competed in the Illinois Skills USA State Leadership and Skills Conference in Springfield, Illinois, April 21st-23rd. Five students competed in Automotive Technology and three students competed in Welding. The students who competed were Jason Datillo, Justin Demay, Cory Mosbacher, Waylin Caldwell, Matt Bockhorn, Tyler Gean, Nolan Finch, and Austin Feldt.
Midwest Welding Team Tournament
Five students from CCSI' s Welding Program competed in the Midwest Welding Tournament located in Indianapolis, Indiana, April 27th and 28th. Students competed in a variety of different events while at the tournament. Students Tyler Gean, Trent Larsen, Austin Feldt, Nolan Finch, and Derek Mott attended the competition. The team placed sixth out of forty six teams. Students Derek Mott and Trent Larsen earned fifth place trophies in GTAW and Theory.
