Welcome to the Career Center of Southern Illinois!



The mission of the Career Center of Southern Illinois is to provide integrated and relevant career and technical education, as well as employability and academic skills for junior and senior students from area high schools, for adults from surrounding communities, and for “at risk” students.  We believe that learning must take place in a nurturing, safe environment that recognizes the diversity of individuals while promoting equity for all.

In March 2018, two CCSI CNA students qualified and attended the Illinois State HOSA competition. While at state, Kaitlynn Brocco from New Athens earned a Top 10 Award in Home Health Aid. These students were accompanied by their advisor and CCSI Instructor Kelly Jany.

April 2017 
CCSI students competed at the MTI Welsing Competition. Congratulations to the students as they brought back 2 Top Ten Awards!

March 9-11, 2016
Our high school CNA instructors, Cara Dayhoff and Kelly Jany (a State HOSA Board Member) took a group of CCSI Health Occupations students to the annual State Convention in Decatur, March 9-11, 2016.  Our students were among 1050 students from 35 high schools across the state. Emily Ford represented CCSI as the Parliamentarian of the HOSA State Board. While at the HOSA Conference students competed in a variety of competitions. CCSI students represented us very well earning the following awards:      
Paige Valleroy- 6th place, Nurse Assisting   
Kandice Williams- 7th place, Medical Photography
Bailey McMurty- 3rd place, Medical Photography
Ally Walter- 5th place, Safety                    
Grace Banda- 4th place, Healthy Lifestyles           Mackenzie Smith- 3rd place, Job Seeking Skills        CCSI is very proud of our students and instructors and their accomplishments. Some of the HOSA students have qualified for and will be traveling to HOSA Nationals in Nasvhille, TN, in June.

Dallas Renth, Senior from New Athens took home the First Place Trophy in Welding Theory.

Ryan Nabors took home a 4th place in Flux Core Arc Welding.


On April 19-21, Four Automotive Service students and one Welding student from CCSI attended and competed at the Illinois SKillsUSA Leadership Conference and Competition. Students competing in Automotive Service were Chris Landi from Marissa, Colten Qualls from Valmeyer, Jaxon Heintz from New Athens, and Tristan Delay from Chester. Ike Franke from Valmeyer competed in Welding. The students were led by their SkillsUSA Advisors, Mr. Greg Baird and Mr. Gary Miller. The students worked hard and finished strong in the competition. Colten Qualls finished 4th, Tristan Delay finished 7th, Chris Landi finished 11th, and Jaxon Heintz finished 35th. 

Welding student Ike Franke earned a 3rd place and received a Skills USA Bronze medal and plaque! 

Students place at Midwest Welding Tournament May 2018

Five students who attend CCSI placed at the annual Midwest Welding Tournament in Indianapolis, IN. The team included Evan Thein (Valmeyer), Kyle Cooley (Valmeyer), Ike Franke (Valmeyer), George Weaver (New Athens), and Ian Hudson (Marissa).  The team placed 5th overall and Ike Franke won a 1st place individual award. 

 May 2017 
CCSI students competed at the SKillsUSA Leadership Conference in Springfield. Students have to the opportunity to compete and participate in leadership development activities.

Skills USA
Eight students from CCSI competed in the Illinois Skills USA State Leadership and Skills Conference in Springfield, Illinois, April 21st-23rd. Five students competed in Automotive Technology and three students competed in Welding. The students who competed were Jason Datillo, Justin Demay, Cory Mosbacher, Waylin Caldwell, Matt Bockhorn, Tyler Gean, Nolan Finch, and Austin Feldt. 

Midwest Welding Team Tournament

Five students from CCSI' s Welding Program competed in the Midwest Welding Tournament located in Indianapolis, Indiana, April 27th and 28th. Students  competed in a variety of different events while at the tournament. Students Tyler Gean, Trent Larsen, Austin Feldt, Nolan Finch, and Derek Mott attended the competition. The team placed sixth out of forty six teams. Students Derek Mott and Trent Larsen earned fifth place trophies in GTAW and Theory.
