Welcome to the Career Center of Southern Illinois!

The mission of the Career Center of Southern Illinois is to provide integrated and relevant career and technical education, as well as employability and academic skills for junior and senior students from area high schools, for adults from surrounding communities, and for “at risk” students.  We believe that learning must take place in a nurturing, safe environment that recognizes the diversity of individuals while promoting equity for all.

April 3-5, 2014

CCSI had three Auto Service and two welding students compete at the 50th Annual Skills USA Illinois State Leadership and Skills USA Championship conference held in Springfield.  The students that competed in Auto Service were Tyler Reeves, from Red Bud and Justin Bert and Josh Yow, from Chester.  The Welding students were Steven Harris, from Chester and Dallas Renth, from New Athens.  Tyler Reeves placed in the top 10 for Auto Service Technology an Steve Harris placed in the top 10 for Welding. Dallas Renth, Josh Yow and Justin Bert all finished in the top 30 in the State.

Dallas Renth, Senior from New Athens took home the First Place Trophy in Welding Theory.

Ryan Nabors took home a 4th place in Flux Core Arc Welding.

CCSI wins team trophy at the AWS Midwest Welding Team Competition. On March 12&13th 5 CCSI welding students competed at the J. Everett Light Career Center in Indianapolis, Indiana at the 36th annual Midwest Welding Team Tournament. 21 teams from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky brought teams consisting of 5 students to compete in either, Theory, GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, and FCAW. The CCSI team consisted of Seniors Steve Harris,and Jeff Wingerter from Chester, Tom Mehring from Red Bud,Elliot Newcom from Waterloo, and Junior Dallas Renth from New Athens.The theory test consisted of 250 questions covering all aspects of welding, blueprint reading, and metalurgy. The Gas Tungsten Arc Welding project consisted of an aluminum project and a vertical aluminum bend test. The Gas Metal Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, and Flux Core Arc Welding project consisted of a mild steel project and a vertical bend test. Team trophy's, and individual trophy's are awarded in each of the 5 areas. Jeff Wingerter placed 4th in SMAW, Tom Mehring placed 4th in FCAW, Dallas Renth placed 4th in theory, and the 5 member team earned the 5th place team trophy. Gary Miller is the welding Instructor at CCSI.

March 4-6, 2015

Our high school CNA instructors, Melody Prather and Kelly Jany (a State HOSA Board Member) took a group of CCSI Health Occ Students to the annual State Convention in Decatur March 4-6, 2015.  Our kids were among over 800 students from schools across the state.

·       Career Center of Southern Illinois won the conference theme for next year's state leadership conference HOSA:  We Believe IT, We Achieve IT.  Tristian Barnes, a Senior at Columbia High School developed and submitted this theme

·       Amanda Acord from Red Bud (2014/2015 Southern Area Vice-President for Illinois HOSA) was a top 10 finalist in Safety and also won one of only two Illinois HOSA $750 Scholarships.

·       Emily Ford from Sparta High School is the new 2015/2016 Illinois State Officer.  Her position is Parliamentarian

·       Shelby Tucker from Columbia High School and Kaylenn Hudson from Waterloo High School both placed in the top 10 for Nursing Assistant

·       Bayleigh Hahn from Chester High School and Jordan Knight and Red Bud High School made it to round 2 in the Career Health Display
